Admissions and Career Transition Counselor - San Antonio

This is a hybrid role within San Antonio. A minimum of an Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field, and two years related experience.

• Recruit eligible youth for Job Corps Program.
• Conduct outreach activities in communities, agencies, American Job Centers, and public events.
• Meet departmental and center goals and objectives.
• Conduct orientations and interviews with applicants, including parents in the case of minors.
• Process applicant files (data entry, scanning documents in e-file).
• Participate in departmental meetings.
• Coordinate with centers to support applicants in travel arrangements.
• Perform Quality Assurance Checks on all applicant files.
• Assess graduates/former trainee placement readiness; provide referrals and accompanying support services per DOL, Center, and Equus requirements.
• Ensure timely placement and retention of graduates and former enrollees in quality jobs, the military, or further education/training opportunities.
• Promote job development through direct contact with employers, One-Stops, JTPA, and State Employment Agencies.
• Clearly communicate and model appropriate CSS and employability skills.
• Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property.
• Adhere to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
• Foster a conducive environment at the center, free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, ensuring a safe space for staff and students.
• Attend all required staff training opportunities.
• Occasional travel required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Above-average public speaking skills and experience in related areas.
• Above-average verbal and written skills.
• Above-average problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Computer literacy;
  Internet, e-mail, and Word processing.
• Ability to work some evening hours and periodic weekends.
• Ability to travel periodically.
• Four years’ experience working with youths ages 16-24.

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field; or
• Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field, and two years related experience. Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.
• Experience working with diverse youth.

• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
