Schedule:

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows:
Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB) – $89.20 up to $130.94 per hour. Lecture Course (Salary Schedule AJ) – $103.85 up to $151.07.

Months Per Year: Semester assignments as needed

Duties and Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, prepare and teach clinical skills labs as well as coordinate open lab practice.
  • Assist in demonstrating and monitoring return demonstrations of clinical skills in structured laboratories.
  • Maintain inventory of instruments, instrument sets, equipment, and supplies for surgical career labs.
  • Collaborate to ensure maintenance of supplies and inventory.
  • Consult with the Program Coordinator regarding the progress of students as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation of student progress.
  • Provide complete and timely progress reports to the Program Coordinator on student clinical performance.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison to the Manager and Educator at each assigned clinical site.
  • Counsel assigned students as needed.
  • Participate in orientation and graduation processes.
  • Facilitate processes and ensure completion and review of required background checks, physical screenings, and immunizations for students.
  • Obtain clinical sites and make student assignments.
  • Monitor and assess student performance during clinical rotations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Skilled in working under federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, and applicable software and databases.
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Recent work experience in surgical technology.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the community-at-large.
  • Experience in directing the work of others and in providing positive problem-solving skills.
  • Adapt to the demands of an ever-changing environment.
  • Work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
  • Job Requirements
    • Possession of a Bachelor's degree and two years of applicable work experience, or an Associate degree and six years of applicable work experience in surgical technology and instrument processing, or the equivalent.
    • Current Surgical Technologist Certification.
    • Minimum two years' operating room experience.
    • Demonstrated teaching experience.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Current immunizations required of healthcare personnel.
    • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card.
    • Possession of a valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one.
    • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
