Position: Part-Time Guitar Instructor (Pool)

Part‑Time Guitar Instructor (Pool)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary

Schedule:

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based on education and credited experience. Initial placement ranges:

• Lab Course – $89.20 to $130.94/hr

• Lecture Course – $103.85 to $151.07/hr

Months Per Year: Semester assignments as needed

Mandated Reporter: Yes

Campus Security Authority: No

Responsibilities
  • Teach guitar classes (e.g., Guitar I‑IV, Guitar Ensemble I‑IV) as assigned from the regular Music Department curriculum
  • Consult with guitar students during regularly scheduled office hours
  • Teach applied music lessons to college‑majoring students preparing to transfer to a baccalaureate music major program
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs, including participation in the assessment of student learning outcomes for assigned guitar courses
  • Provide day and evening classes as scheduled by the College
  • Employment Standards / Knowledge
    • Knowledge of the use of technology in teaching guitar
    Skills and Abilities
    • Recent successful experience teaching or preparing to teach college‑level guitar courses
    • Ability to teach a variety of music styles, including Latin, progressive rock, jazz, folk, heavy metal, country, reggae, soul, Motown, Memphis, and funk
    • Ability to teach using diverse guitar methodologies and pedagogies
    • Ability to read traditional music notation, guitar tablature, and other systems such as the Nashville numbering system
    • Ability to plan, organize, and execute guitar ensemble performances at least once per semester
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Vision to develop and foster a dynamic music department
    • Commitment to the mission of a community college and to academic excellence
    • Ability to apply cooperative and collaborative teaching methods that engage students and promote higher‑order thinking
    • Capability to adapt instruction to students of diverse abilities, preparation levels, and cultural experiences
    • Experience developing instructional learning outcomes and assessing student achievement of those outcomes
    • Acceptance of established academic standards and commitment to integrating writing across the curriculum
    • Willingness to collaborate collegially at departmental, divisional, college, and district levels
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated performance experience in a variety of styles
    • Additional expertise in MIDI (Pro Tools/Logic), hip hop, or world music
    • Facility with Finale or Sibelius or other computer‑generated notation programs
    Job Requirements
    • Possession of a Master’s or higher in music or a Bachelor’s in music plus a Master’s or higher in humanities (or equivalent credentials)
    • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community‑college students, faculty, and staff, including neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ communities, to support equity‑minded practice inside and outside the classroom
