Schedule:

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows:

  • Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB) - $89.20 up to $130.94 per hour.
  • Lecture Course (Salary Schedule AJ) - $103.85 up to $151.07.

Months Per Year: Semester assignments as needed

Mandated Reporter: Yes

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach classes as assigned from the current Kinesiology Division curriculum. This could include fitness classes, yoga, Pilates, team sports, individual sports, etc. The area of specialty should be identified on your resume.
  • Establish relationships with the community, including students, faculty, administration, staff, San Mateo County, and contiguous high school coaches, media, and businesses.
  • Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, equipment, and technology that will enhance offerings in the department.
  • Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies.
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Serve as a member of division and college committees.
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs, including developing a course syllabus, monitoring student progress, adding/dropping students, evaluating students, etc.
  • Develop curriculum and modes of instruction in Kinesiology, and assist in curriculum revisions and new course development.

  • College, professional, or high school athletic programs.
  • Current theories and teaching methods, especially in a culturally diverse student population.
  • The latest developments in the discipline and a commitment to remaining current.
  • Skills and Abilities
  • An understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Recent successful experience coaching.
  • Teaching experience, or ability to teach, in a varied kinesiology (physical education) program.
  • Understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of this community college.
  • A commitment to the teaching and coaching profession, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for supporting departmental and college missions.
  • Assess students' achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Motivate students to develop critical thinking skills.
  • Organize, demonstrate, and explain materials that correspond with students' abilities, levels of preparation, and learning styles.
  • Use teaching methods that encourage students to become active learners.
  • Desire to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support, and student success.
  • Commitment to the professional responsibility of serving on participatory governance committees.
  • Job Requirements
    • Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's degree or above in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent (see below).
    • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain certification before assignment begins.
    • Possession of a valid California Driver's License (or the ability to obtain one).
    • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.
