Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Technical Support
Company Overview
Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best‑in‑class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios and beyond.
AboutThe Team
The Launch Team enables sales by winning the technical validation process, driving value to customers by seamlessly delivering services, and supporting customers with world‑class onboarding and technical expertise. We are a rapidly growing team of passionate, mission‑driven UAS professionals, who sweat the details and ensure our customers are set up for success.
AboutThe Role
As Skydio brings drones to the portfolio of modern infrastructure, many of our customers require installation and management of their drone docking stations on private or secure networks. Skydio sells a self‑hosted version of the cloud offering that customers can install on their own hardware. This is a customer‑facing role where you’ll be directly involved, helping customers learn to fly for the first time, manage their new software stack, integrate the stack with the rest of their ecosystem, and support them when they run into issues.
You’ll provide support remotely or in‑person and should expect to travel about 40% of the time.
We are looking for a scrappy and resourceful expert in Linux systems, networking, and enough familiarity with coding to put together basic integrations between RESTful services. As the first hire for a new role, you will be instrumental in setting the tone and path for how Skydio will manage on‑prem customers working out of some of the most secure facilities in the world.
While your primary goal is ensuring our product is working well for our customers, you’ll also be a member of the product team, suggesting and making enduring improvements to the product ecosystem as you identify flaws or opportunities. We are looking for you to be a Linux system expert for the deployment engineering team. The deployment engineering team primarily focuses on being deep experts in UAS systems and wireless technologies, and you’ll be a crucial value‑add to the team’s ability to communicate and work with our customer’s IT teams as we navigate corporate firewalls and infosec policies.
You’ll Make An Impact
- Support Skydio customers with our self‑hosted products.
- Assist the customer in planning and writing integrations between their internal systems and our drone management software.
- Debug and troubleshoot outages, wherever and whenever they occur.
- Build out our on‑prem lab in California, including organizing the hardware, building trial‑and‑evaluation flyaway kits, and testing.
- Be a key member of the product team, informing the form factors and menu of options for our on‑prem offerings.
- 4+ years experience with Linux system administration, including host configuration, patching, networking, and debugging typical system health issues.
- Experience with building and racking servers, mostly applicable to our in‑house lab.
- Coding experience: working knowledge of REST APIs or similar API boundaries and experience working with customers to implement and test integrations (basic scripting, testing, documentation).
- Comfortable communicating directly with customers.
- US Person required for working at US government facilities.
- Ability to travel 40% of the time.
- Ability to acquire Part 107 certificate (for flying UAS).
- Experience in areas such as Mapping, Surveying, Photogrammetry in the Utilities or Public Safety industries.
- Experience working with physical systems, such as building your own drones or maintaining other IoT devices.
- Experience with corporate firewalls, such as Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, or Meraki.
