Why Play Station?
Play Station isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Today, we’re recognized as a global leader in entertainment producing The Play Station family of products and services including Play Station®5, Play Station®4, Play Station®VR, Play Station®Plus, acclaimed Play Station software titles from Play Station Studios, and more.
Play Station also strives to create an inclusive environment that empowers employees and embraces diversity. We welcome and encourage everyone who has a passion and curiosity for innovation, technology, and play to explore our open positions and join our growing global team.
The Play Station brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation.
How would you like to influence the most successful gaming platform of all time, by leading our teams which test and analyze the very technology our Play Station developers use to build our best selling games?
Sony Interactive Entertainment (Play Station) has an exciting career opportunity! We are looking for a creative, diligent, hands‑on Software Engineering Manager in Test who will be responsible for leading quality engineering (QE) teams. These teams will research and build the next generation of Play Station’s testing technology, and, as their leader, you will set this future technology’s direction.
Join us, and coordinate with our internal software development teams who are building the core tech behind the console games of tomorrow. This involves analyzing the quality of at least two of the following: (1) Play Station CPU compilers and tools that are part of the open‑source LLVM compiler infrastructure; (2) Real‑world audio and video codecs used throughout the Play Station system software;
(3) Play Station’s 3D Audio technology and greater audio ecosystem used in the Play Station software development kit (SDK) and system software. While these three areas are primary focus areas, there may be opportunities in testing 3D graphics, artificial intelligence, and the fully integrated Play Station game development environment.
With your direction, Play Station can successfully innovate while maintaining the highest quality software standards. If this sounds exciting, please apply!
Responsibilities:
• Lead a diverse team of our Software Engineers in Test. Own everything from hiring to mentoring, work planning, career growth and performance management.
• Support these QE teams in their efforts to maintain and improve tools and infrastructure to build and test Play Station sample applications.
• Research and craft new tools for overcoming inefficient processes by automating work.
• Coordinate construction of testing plans, samples, and documentation together with our global software production, documentation, and remote offshore engineering teams.
Technical Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in Python programming. (Multiple industry projects completed.)
• Enough C++ experience to provide guidance to junior engineers in code review.
• A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, and applying proven software methodologies to testing and driving reductions in technical debt.
• Experience with software engineering practices, and exposure to software automation and testing systems (for example, Jenkins).
• The following are very nice to have (but not required):
Past experience with cloud computing and containerization (Docker), or game development.
Skills and Characteristics
• Effective leading medium size Agile teams in quality and testing engineering domains. (Software engineering managers with deep experience and understanding of testing groups and processes should also apply.)
• Proven success in people management including mentorship.
• Possessing outstanding verbal and written communication skills, which encompass presenting to product managers, software engineers, project managers, and customers.
• Experience recruiting software engineering talent.
