The Role:
As the Director of Software Engineering, you are a hands‑on, "rock star" Java developer and visionary leader responsible for driving the development of enterprise‑grade cloud SaaS/PaaS distributed applications. You will orchestrate the broader engineering ecosystem by deriving a roadmap that balances commitments, tech debt, and product innovation to mitigate risk. By balancing technical excellence with business ROI, you will spearhead SRE and agile process improvements, mentor team leads, and foster a high‑performing culture.
You will also act as the eyes and ears to customer needs, collaborating closely with customers, field teams, and company leadership to continually innovate the product experience.
As Director of Platform Engineering, you own the platform that every Snap Logic service runs on: the control plane, the data layer behind it, and the operational tooling that keeps it healthy in production. You are a hands‑on technical leader and a people leader. You set the architectural direction, you build and grow the team that executes it, and you stay close enough to the systems to make real decisions about them.
This is a role for a leader with real depth in distributed systems and the data layer that backs them. You will hold your team to end‑to‑end understanding of the systems they operate, and you will be expected to have that understanding yourself. Snap Logic runs roughly 50 MongoDB clusters across production and test, holding more than 60TB of data, and that footprint is a core part of the charter.
You will derive a roadmap that balances customer commitments, technical debt, and platform innovation, and you will be judged on reliability and scale as much as on delivery. You are also the eyes and ears on platform health for the wider engineering organization, working with SRE, application teams, support, and company leadership.
This is a hybrid role based at our HQ in San Mateo, CA, with the requirement to work in the office two days per week.
What You'll Do:- Platform Ownership & Architecture You own the services that make up Snap Logic's control plane. You set the architectural direction for reliability, performance, and scalability across services, the data layer, and upstream dependencies. You review designs for critical components, you make the call on build versus buy, and you keep a clear view of risk versus reward on every production change.
You decide how much of your own time goes to coding and code review, and you keep enough hands‑on depth to lead the work credibly. - Engineering Leadership & Team Building You have led and managed engineering teams, and you think constantly about team productivity, quality, and health. You own hiring for the team, including the forecast and budget, recruiting strong engineers, and promoting and growing the people already here. You organize the team to make impactful changes, you delegate technical ownership over subject matter areas, you establish leads and empower them to mentor their own reports, and you give direct, constructive feedback.
