Position Overview

The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) works closely with the Store Manager to direct all aspects of store operations. The ASM is accountable for managing store conditions, product quality, inventory, and lead the front-end to meet or exceed service levels.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
  • Manage store operations with an emphasis on the front-end; direct team members to meet expected service levels and oversee cash management.
  • Develop and implement team member work shift schedules; serve as final decision maker on store operational issues in the Store Manager’s absence.
  • Oversee, evaluate, diagnose, and resolve inventory issues with vendors and warehouses; audit product quality to ensure date integrity.
  • Assign, direct, supervise, and coach team members; complete performance reviews and provide actionable feedback.
  • Manage the in-store training program and provide ongoing developmental opportunities for all team members.
  • Actively participate in recruiting and hiring; evaluate applicants and make hiring decisions.
  • Promote effective two-way communications with customers and all store team members; identify areas needing improvement and develop store-specific programs.
  • Drive customer focus throughout the store and support the execution and Voice of the Customer.
  • Directly support achievement of store-wide sales goals; track and analyze sales and profitability data and recommend expense controls.
  • Direct team member work activity in product recalls, store cleanliness, maintenance, and serve as the store point of contact during inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with Company sanitation, safety, security, and legal mandates.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

  • Knowledge of store operations, financials, hazardous materials, food safety rules, employment law, union contractual agreement language, interview techniques, and hiring practices.
Education

Four-year college degree or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education or certification (e.g., RMCP), specialization retail training, or additional grocery retail experience a plus.

Experience

Minimum of two years of retail management experience is preferred.

Other

Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.

Physical

Requires standing and other physical movements on a frequent basis. Requires lifting to 40 lbs. without assistance. Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach, pull and lift objects.
