Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. Reporting to the Medical Director of OB/GYN, the Lead Gynecologist Physician provides medical leadership of MCC’s Gynecology and Reproductive Health services while also maintaining an obstetrical practice and providing consultation on High Risk Obstetrical services. Within MCC, the Physician Lead Gynecologist works in conjunction with MCC’s Reproductive Health Providers and primary care providers to ensure that high quality OB/GYN services are delivered throughout the organization, including providing high risk case-management, mentoring advanced practice clinicians, reviewing and developing clinical protocols, overseeing the Family PACT program, and providing staff development activities.
Along with working collaboratively with the Lead Obstetrician Physician, OB Program Manager, CNM providers, and operations management at MCC, the Lead Gynecologist Physician will help staff High Risk Obstetrical clinic and may attend high risk OB case conferences.
This is a full time position, with three days of clinic (High Risk Obstetrics and Complex Gynecology), 4-8 hours of leadership administrative time, and approximately 6 hours per week of additional meetings or operating room time. Total FTE for this role may be reduced to a minimum of 0.75
FTE in order to accommodate Labor and Delivery shifts at Marin Health Medical Center, if the provider elects to pursue this (see below).
The Lead Gynecologist Physician is expected to perform gynecologic surgery, so must maintain admitting privileges at Marin Health Medical Center.
It is recommended, but not required, that the Lead Gynecologist Physician seek to contract separately with the Marin Health Hospitalist Group for Labor & Delivery on-call shifts at Marin Health Medical Center, where MCC obstetrical patients deliver. This will allow them to continue an inpatient OB/GYN practice while working closely with the Marin Health Medical Center OB/GYN department and leadership, WIC staff, OB/GYN Hospitalist providers to ensure good continuity of care between the outpatient and inpatient settings.

- Provides direct patient care in High-Risk Obstetrics antepartum, and postpartum care.
- Provides direct patient care for Gynecological patients, both outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures as needed.
- Provides direct inpatient care through Marin Health Medical Center OB/GYN hospitalist program (recommended).
- Develops, reviews, and implements clinical practice guidelines and protocols for OB/GYN department, with focus on GYN services.
- Facilitates staff development activities and training for OB/GYN staff, and facilitates bimonthly reproductive health meetings.
- Monitors clinical practice and competence by developing and participating in medical record audits, peer review, and other practice review activities.
- Represents MCC OB/GYN leadership at internal and community-based meetings, as delegated.
- May participate in Marin Health Medical Center OB/GYN Hospitalist Program Quality Improvement (eg Perinatal Review Committee), CME, Marin Health OB/GYN Department meetings and other educational activities.
- Supports clinical practice of MDs and Advanced Practice Clinicians providing OB/GYN services, including sharing 5 day/week coverage of EPIC Inbasket and availability for phone or in-person urgent consultations with other OB/GYN MDs.
- May facilitate and coordinate medical student/resident training opportunities.
- Participates in MCC QA/QI and risk management programs, as applicable.
