The Preschool Teacher, under the direction of the Site Manager, supports the daily operations of a preschool classroom and ensures that educational programming aligns with Head Start Performance Standards, California Department of Education (CDE) regulations, and Community Care Licensing requirements. This role fosters the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development of children, while building positive relationships with families, staff, and partners.
EssentialDuties Health, Safety & Wellbeing of Children
Build nurturing, responsive relationships with children to support their physical and emotional development.
Maintain active supervision at all times to ensure child safety.
Comply with licensing regulations, health protocols, and sanitation standards.
Conduct daily health checks and complete quarterly safety checklists.
Follow Family Style Meal protocols and manage allergy documentation.
Submit timely reports for incidents, accidents, and supply needs.
Curriculum Implementation & InstructionImplement Creative Curriculum and integrate enhancements such as SEAL, GLAD, and Teaching Pyramid.
Apply a reflective cycle of observation, planning, and assessment using DRDP online.
Conduct annual classroom assessments (e.g., ECERS, ITERS, SACERS).
Align instruction with best practices in early childhood development.
Individualization & Developmental SupportMaintain up-to-date portfolios and developmental screenings.
Use assessment results to adapt instruction and classroom routines.
Participate in case management, transition planning, and IEP implementation.
Support dual language learners in accordance with agency policies.
Emotional Guidance & Behavior SupportUse positive behavior guidance strategies such as redirection, logical choices, and natural consequences.
Promote self-regulation, problem-solving, and positive peer interactions.
Provide consistent, nurturing verbal and physical support.
Inclusive & Culturally Responsive EnvironmentCreate a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for all children and families.
Incorporate diverse books, materials, and visuals reflective of community cultures.
Support full participation of children with disabilities through collaboration with specialists.
Team Collaboration & Classroom OperationsAssist with routines such as meals, toileting, and cleanup.
Foster a positive team culture through communication, modeling, and collaboration.
Provide mentorship to substitutes and volunteers.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service days.
Professionalism & Agency StandardsUphold CAM and Head Start/CDE policies, procedures, and Code of Ethics.
Maintain respectful, professional relationships with children, families, and staff.
Ensure timely, accurate completion of documentation and reports.
Adhere to work schedules, reporting procedures, and confidentiality standards.
Demonstrate commitment to CAM’s mission and values in daily practices.
Qualifications EducationAll applicants must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field (minimum requirement).
24 ECE/CD units, including core courses, plus 16 general education units.
California Child Development Teacher Permit.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
