The Senior Accounting Assistant in the Tax Collectors Unit of the Property Tax Division plays a critical role in managing the high‑volume processing of incoming property tax payments, which peaks during two major collection periods each year. This role is primarily responsible for the accurate and timely processing of remittances, including fund reconciliation, cash deposits, scanning and posting payments, and ICL submittal to the bank.

The position also supports the Treasury Desk with incoming deposits for County departments and assists with front‑counter operations, including cash handling and providing customer service in a public‑facing environment. Key responsibilities include posting daily transactions and remittances; preparing and posting general ledger entries; reconciling subsidiary and suspense accounts; balancing daily cash, check, and electronic payments; and researching and resolving discrepancies. Additional duties include closing the front counter and reconciling cashier payments; leading the processing of penalty review applications; creating redemption certificates for mailed payments; generating correspondence to property owners; and participating in quarterly cash audits with the State to ensure compliance and accuracy.

The Senior Accounting Assistant must maintain accurate, auditable records of all transactions, handle sensitive information exchanges with external agencies, and support colleagues during peak workloads. With a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical problem‑solving, they are able to reconcile complex financial transactions, interpret and apply accounting policies, and resolve discrepancies efficiently. They thrive in a dynamic, regulatory, and high‑volume collections environment, communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute positively to a collaborative team while consistently maintaining high standards of professionalism. Experience with billing, remittance processing, and handling large volumes of mail and payments is highly valued.
