Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant – Casting Specialist, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and Practice Leader, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management. This role assists the providers within the scope of practice to provide quality patient care, including gathering patient information, assessing patient requests, obtaining and monitoring patient vitals, assisting with procedures, and re‑processing instruments.
Additionally, this role is responsible for the application, adjustment, and removal of orthopedic immobilization devices, including plaster and synthetic casts, splints, and braces, under the supervision of licensed medical providers.
- Room patient, obtain vital signs, reason for visit, and document symptoms.
- Document all required information in electronic medical records.
- Provide injections and immunizations as ordered by the provider.
- Assist during medical procedures.
- Obtain all patient information required to meet regulatory obligations.
- Track the receipt of all results for ordered tests.
- Perform POCT and quality controls.
- Use EMR and task lists to complete patient visits and requests.
- Provide accurate information to patients and maintain confidentiality.
- Complete referrals accurately and appropriately.
- Disinfect exam rooms between patients and all patient areas daily.
- Assist with clinic upkeep, including cleaning and supply ordering.
- Reprocess scopes and probes after competency in specialty clinics.
- Perform sterilization of instruments using an autoclave.
- Apply, adjust, and remove orthopedic immobilization devices.
- Prepare patients for casting procedures and educate them on cast care.
- Assist patients with orthopedic support devices such as crutches, walkers, and braces.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of casting materials.
- Collaboration with the healthcare team to monitor patient progress and report concerns.
- Maintain calmness in emergencies or high‑pressure situations.
- Collaborate with team members on ongoing projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with OSHA and safety regulations.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a casting course or workshop.
- At least one year of related medical assisting experience in a physician’s office or other clinical setting.
- Experience with casting is necessary.
- A Medical Assistant certificate required.
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
- Ability to perform under supervision of licensed medical providers.
Pay Range: $29.49 - $34.33 - $40.05
