Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III

Overview

This is the full journey-level classification in the wastewater treatment plant operator series. Incumbents independently perform the full range of wastewater treatment and reclamation and recycled water facilities and equipment operations and maintenance duties.

Inspect and attend assigned areas in a timely manner to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the District’s wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment. Positions at this level work independently, exercise judgment and initiative, and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

This class is distinguished from the Lead Plant Operator in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional direction to operations staff and is capable.

Salary: $9,074 - $11,581 Monthly

Requirements: The candidates for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III position will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance.

• Maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
• Hold a minimum of a California State Water Resources Control Board (CASWRCB) Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate.

Additional compensation may be available upon satisfactory completion/substantiation of higher certification pay requirements.

The position also requires that the successful candidate reside within a forty-five-minute driving radius of the District office, during non-commute hours, to be able to respond to the treatment plant during emergencies.
