Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities within a specific program area, supporting the Red Shield Youth Center priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship. May oversee special programs and events (e.g., Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, may provide supervision oversight to other Youth Development Professionals to ensure continuity of program services at unit/branch locations.
Builds and maintains a professional relationship with all Youth Center members and their families to help advance the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Plan and implement youth development programming aligned with Center priorities.
- Supervise and evaluate program activities and staff.
- Coordinate special programs, events, and award presentations.
- Provide supervision to other professionals in the absence of the Program Coordinator.
- Maintain positive relationships with youth members and families.
- Support and coordinate activities and events with volunteers and community partners.
- Present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
- Interact with children and teens with patience, respect and professionalism.
- Prepare, maintain and report accurate records.
- Communicate roles and responsibilities clearly to individuals and groups.
- Schedule meetings and coordinate logistics.
- Work effectively with diverse co‑workers, volunteers and the public.
- Operate office equipment (copier, fax, etc.) and use Windows & Microsoft Office 365.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication in English.
High School Diploma or GED; previous work in related field with children and youth preferred.
Commitment to active participation in a Professional Development Plan including Level II & Level III Training and completion of 20 Credit Hours of Red Shield Youth Centers of America Spillett Training.
Certifications- Driver’s License preferred.
Ability to handle stressful situations and follow emergency procedures.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk frequently and manage physical demands of indoor/outdoor recreational environments.
- Must meet attendance requirements and work under pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
- Must communicate effectively in English.
