Senior Accountant - Medical Client Portfolio

Introduction

Job Purpose:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to manage a portfolio of approximately 30 clients in the medical sector
, including private practices, specialists, and healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will be responsible for full-function accounting, tax compliance and payroll services tailored to the needs of medical professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Accounting (Medical Practices):

• Manage the full accounting function for approximately 30 medical clients monthly.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including financial performance insights tailored to the healthcare industry.
• Perform reconciliations of bank accounts.

Tax Compliance:

• Calculate and submit VAT
  201, EMP
  201, and EMP
  501 returns via SARS e-Filing and Easy File.
• Prepare personal and corporate income tax returns (ITR
  12 & ITR
  14) for healthcare professionals and incorporated practices.
• Submit bi-annual provisional tax returns (IRP6) and manage tax planning to suit medical clients’ seasonal cash flows.
• Handle SARS audits and verifications professionally and efficiently.

Payroll Services:

• Manage payroll for client practices using Simple Pay or equivalent software.
• Process salaries and commissions.
• Reconcile annual leave, sick leave, and statutory deductions.
• Complete and submit annual COIDA Return of Earnings.

Annual Financial Statements:

• Compile trial balances and working papers.
• Prepare financial statements using Draftworx, with sector-specific notes where applicable.
• Liaise with auditors or financial advisors where required.

Client Relationship Management:

• Serve as the main accounting contact for each medical client, providing proactive financial guidance.
• Understand the specific financial and regulatory challenges of the healthcare sector.
• Communicate results clearly and provide recommendations for tax efficiency and financial health.
• Maintain high service standards and ensure all client deadlines are met.

Skills &

Competencies:

• Strong understanding of medical practice operations and billing structures.
• Proficiency in Xero, Draftworx, Simple Pay, and Microsoft Excel.
• Expert knowledge of SARS e-Filing and Easy File systems.
• Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting client relationships.
• Ability to manage high volumes of work under tight deadlines.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, preferably with medical or professional service clients.
• Proven ability to manage a portfolio of multiple clients independently.
