Senior Energy Design Engineer - Johannesburg or Cape Town

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Energy Design Engineer to join a growing Energy Division within a respected consulting engineering environment.

This role is ideal for an experienced Electrical Engineer who is passionate about the renewable energy and energy transition space, and who enjoys being involved in high-impact projects across solar PV, wind, battery storage, green hydrogen, grid connections, mini/micro-grids and decarbonisation initiatives.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the energy consulting team, working across technical advisory, owner’s engineer and design services for a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities:
You will be involved in leading and supporting the delivery of renewable energy and energy transition projects, with responsibilities including:

• Providing technical advisory, owner’s engineer and design services within the renewable energy sector
• Supporting project management and the delivery of multi-disciplinary energy projects
• Preparing bids, proposals, technical reports and client presentations
• Reviewing reports, drawings and technical documentation prepared by others
• Preparing and managing proposals for due diligence, technical advisory, owner’s engineering and lender’s technical advisory services
• Supporting internal governance processes for project proposals
• Mentoring and guiding junior members of the energy team across the company’s South African offices
• Contributing to business development and client-facing activities

Requirements:

• B.Eng. or BSc. in Electrical Engineering
• Professional registration with ECSA is preferred
• A further qualification in renewable energy would be advantageous
• Strong experience within the renewable energy and/or energy transition sector
• Experience with PV, wind, battery storage, green hydrogen, grid systems, mini-grids or micro-grids
• Good understanding of grid connections and the broader large-project energy environment
• Financial acumen relating to energy projects and project finance
• Strong project planning, feasibility study, concept design and tender documentation experience
• Excellent written communication, technical reporting and presentation skills
• Strong client-facing, leadership, commercial and contractual skills
• Knowledge of industrial processes and decarbonisation technologies would be a distinct advantage
