Environmental Officer - Mining

Our client requires an experienced Environmental Officer to oversee environmental compliance and management for their mining operations in Sandton . This critical role ensures that all activities adhere to local and international environmental standards and regulations. You will be responsible for developing and implementing environmental management plans, conducting impact assessments, and monitoring environmental performance. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of environmental law and a proactive approach to sustainability in the mining industry , contributing to responsible resource development.

• Develop, implement, and manage Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new projects and expansions.
• Monitor environmental parameters (e.g., water quality, air emissions, noise levels).
• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permit conditions.
• Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and internal teams on environmental matters.

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental management, preferably in mining.
• Thorough knowledge of South African environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA).
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and reporting.
• Strong understanding of environmental risks associated with mining activities.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and reporting skills.
