Control Systems Engineer - Automation and SCADA

Our client, a leading name in the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer with a focus on automation and SCADA systems for their operations near Sandton, Gauteng . This position is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, and maintenance of industrial control systems that ensure the efficient and safe operation of production facilities. The engineer will work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and distributed control systems (DCS).

A strong understanding of industrial automation, networking, and cybersecurity within an operational technology (OT) environment is essential. This role is vital for maintaining and enhancing the operational capabilities of our client's assets in South Africa .

• Design, develop, and implement PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems for industrial automation.
• Configure and troubleshoot control system hardware and software.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, including P&IDs, logic diagrams, and network architecture.
• Ensure the cybersecurity of control systems in line with industry best practices.
• Provide technical support for control system issues during operations and maintenance.
• Collaborate with project teams on the integration of new control systems and upgrades.
• Perform system testing, commissioning, and validation.
• Analyze system performance data and recommend optimization strategies.
• Stay abreast of advancements in industrial automation and control system technology.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems engineering, SCADA, or industrial automation.
• Proficiency with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) and SCADA software (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware).
• Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols and cybersecurity principles (OT).
• Experience with DCS systems is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Experience in the Oil & Gas or process industry is highly desirable.
• Must hold valid work authorization for South Africa .
