Senior Roads Engineer - Design & Project Management

Our client, a leading engineering firm specializing in transportation infrastructure, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Roads Engineer to join their dynamic team in Sandton, Gauteng . This role is critical for leading the design and management of complex road and highway projects, from conceptualization through to construction supervision. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical excellence, safety, and sustainability of road infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in geometric design, pavement engineering, traffic management, and project leadership. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure developments in a key economic hub of Gauteng .

• Lead the design and development of road and highway projects, including interchanges, urban roads, and rural highways.
• Conduct feasibility studies, traffic impact assessments, and route selection studies.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and tender documentation for road construction.
• Manage project teams, budgets, and schedules, ensuring timely and cost-effective project delivery.
• Liaise with clients, government authorities (e.g., SANRAL), and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant road design standards, SANS specifications, and environmental regulations.
• Oversee construction supervision activities, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
• Perform road safety audits and recommend improvements.
• Stay updated on advancements in road engineering technologies and practices.

• A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or equivalent in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Transportation or Roads Engineering.
• Professional registration as a Pr Eng with ECSA is essential.
• A minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in roads and highway design and project management.
• Proven track record in managing large-scale road infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in relevant design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Pavement Engineering software.
• Deep understanding of South African road design standards (e.g., SANRAL standards), traffic engineering principles, and construction methods.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
