Finance Accountant

Merchant West is looking for an experienced Accountant to join our Working Capital Solutions division, who is ready to take on new challenges in the Financial Services industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices combined with the delivery of accurate financial information.

• Accurately process all supplier and customer invoices in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures
• Ensure all transactions related to accounts payable and receivable are accurately recorded and reconciled on a regular basis
• Perform monthly reconciliations of all supplier (creditor) accounts against supplier statements, identifying and resolving any discrepancies promptly
• Maintain an up-to-date ledger and support the month‑end close process by ensuring completeness and accuracy of all payable and receivable balances
• Assist in the preparation and posting of monthly accruals, prepayments, and journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Support the month‑end and year‑end close processes by ensuring all relevant financial data is properly recorded and reviewed
• Prepare and submit accurate VAT returns in accordance with statutory deadlines, including VAT apportionment calculations as required
• Prepare, verify, and authorise payment transactions across bank accounts, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution
• Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately in the accounting system, maintaining compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards
• Support internal and external audit requirements by providing necessary documentation and reconciliations in a timely manner
• Collaborate with internal teams to improve invoice processing workflows and strengthen financial controls
• Identify areas for process improvement and support initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations
