About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Trader to join their energetic commodities trading desk in Sandton. This pivotal role involves managing the buying and selling of various energy commodities, including crude oil, natural gas, and refined products, in both domestic and international markets. You will be responsible for identifying trading opportunities, managing risk exposure, and executing profitable trades to achieve the company's financial objectives.
The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of energy markets, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record of success in a fast-paced trading environment within the financial hub of Gauteng.
- Execute trading strategies for a portfolio of energy commodities, aiming for maximum profitability.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, price movements, and arbitrage opportunities.
- Manage and mitigate trading risks, including market, credit, and operational risks, through robust hedging strategies.
- Monitor global economic indicators, geopolitical events, and supply/demand fundamentals affecting energy markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, counter parties, and key market participants.
- Prepare detailed trading reports, performance analyses, and market commentary for senior management.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in trading energy commodities or related financial instruments.
- Proven track record of successful trading P&L and risk management.
- In-depth knowledge of energy markets (oil, gas, power, coal) and their underlying drivers.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and decision-making abilities under pressure.
