The Cloud Engineer is focused on performing a number of activities on a daily basis and will be involved in the day-to-day activities in cloud management.
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to; capacity and availability monitoring and response, alert management and filtering, management of service requests and client queries, risk and release management of patches and applications, and automated deployment and configuration management using infrastructure-as-code and source code management tools.
The ideal candidate will also need to demonstrate, excellent knowledge of experience Cloud operations and managing large-scale infrastructure including experience in systems automation, orchestration, deployment, and implementation.
The day to day activities includes the following:
- Ensuring the level of fault tolerance on the basis of business needs
- Monitoring and managing billing and cost optimization processes
- Monitoring performance and availability of the applications on the AWS and/or Azure platform
- Optimization of the environment for ensuring maximum performance
- Identification of potential issues on the given application deployment
- Provisioning cloud resources and managing implementation automation
- Identifying the performance of bottlenecks and implementing the remedies
- Managing disaster recovery processes and procedures for backups
- Implementation and management of security policies
- Ensuring access controls and data integrity while using the AWS platform
- Deploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems in AWS and/or Azure.
- Working closely with Cloud Dev Ops Engineering to build environments using automation and configuration management tools.
- A background in traditional system operations, including, but not limited to; application, virtualisation, server, and network security is an additional advantage. An interest in, and studying towards an industry-recognized Dev Ops certification is an advantage.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Responsible and accountable for maintaining and operating all infrastructure hardware, operating systems, and services.
- Configuration management of operating systems and applications, ensuring standards are defined and managed using the necessary tools provided
- Responsible and accountable for the monitoring and alerting of all relevant infrastructure.
- Managing risk and release through automation of configuration management, patch management, and version control.
- Identification of and action on risks that could impact the security, stability or availability of services.
- Ownership of critical issues escalated to the team from any number of sources across the organization.
- Raise awareness to line managers about potential issues arising from, but not limited to, delivery impediments on current projects, risks affecting services, issues with services, networks, or systems on which the business unit relies.
- Experience and proven success in this area of the ICT sector
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma)
- AWS or Azure Sys Ops Certification required
- Operating System – Windows, Linux
- Database – SQL Server, MySQL / pgSQL
- Infrastructure-as-Code - Hashicorp suite
- Working knowledge of Shell/Bash scripts
- Experience working with Agile teams
- Good knowledge of networking
