Lead Technical Architect

Purpose of the Role

To act as the custodian of technical thought leadership within the Group Technology environment by providing expert guidance, architecture direction and technical assurance for the integration of solutions across multiple technologies, platforms and supporting processes.

The role will ensure that technology solutions are sustainable, secure, scalable, supportable and aligned to the Bank’s strategic objectives, while strengthening technical capability and architectural maturity across Group Technology.

• Provide technical leadership and architecture guidance across complex, cross-functional technology initiatives.
• Translate business strategy, technology strategy and target-state architecture into practical, end-to-end solution designs.
• Define and promote technical principles, standards, reusable patterns and reference architectures.
• Ensure solution designs support long-term sustainability, scalability, resilience, security and operational efficiency.
• Drive architectural consistency across technology domains, delivery teams and platforms.
• Provide expert input into strategic technology decisions, platform selection, modernisation priorities and technical roadmaps.

• Lead the design and integration of solutions across multiple technology stacks, applications, data platforms, infrastructure environments and delivery teams.
• Ensure effective integration between legacy systems, modern platforms, cloud services, APIs, microservices, event-driven services and third-party solutions.
• Analyse technical dependencies, integration points, data flows, service contracts and cross-platform impacts.
• Define integration approaches that support interoperability, reusability, security, performance and operational resilience.
• Guide teams on API design, service orchestration, messaging, event-driven architecture, data integration and identity/access integration where relevant.
• Ensure non-functional requirements are appropriately incorporated into solution designs.

• Participate in architecture governance forums, solution design reviews and technical assurance processes.
• Review and challenge proposed designs to ensure alignment with architecture principles, technology standards and strategic direction.
• Identify architectural risks, technical debt, delivery dependencies and operational concerns.
• Provide recommendations to mitigate solution, security, performance, scalability and integration risks.
• Ensure that technical decisions are appropriately documented, governed and communicated.
• Support the development of architecture artefacts, including solution designs, integration diagrams, capability maps, roadmaps and technical standards.

• Work closely with product, engineering, delivery, infrastructure, security, data and operations teams to ensure architecture is translated effectively into delivery.
• Support delivery teams throughout the solution lifecycle, including design, build, testing, deployment and production support.
• Ensure alignment between solution architecture and supporting processes, including Dev Sec Ops , CI/CD, testing, environment management, incident management, change management and service support.
• Promote observability, monitoring, logging, resilience, recoverability and production-readiness practices.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering quality, integration practices and technology delivery methods.

• Mentor, coach and develop architects, engineers and technical specialists across Group Technology.
• Facilitate technical communities of practice, architecture forums and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Promote adoption of modern technology practices, architectural patterns and engineering standards.
• Build technical depth within the organisation by identifying capability gaps and supporting targeted development initiatives.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior technology leaders and delivery teams.
