The Community Research & Data Manager will lead and execute research initiatives to ensure a deep understanding of the needs, assets, and dynamics of the communities Pele Energy Group serves. This role requires expertise in needs assessments, social and health impact assessments, general household evaluations, and participatory research. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data collection, analysis, and reporting, coupled with a forward-thinking approach to continuously improve outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Research and Needs Assessment
- Conduct thorough needs assessments to identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities in target communities.
- Lead participatory research activities to engage community members and stakeholders in identifying priorities and co-developing solutions.
- Map community assets to inform project design and ensure interventions build on existing strengths and resources.
- Design and implement Social Impact Assessments (SIAs) to evaluate the socio-economic effects of projects.
- Conduct Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) to measure potential health outcomes and inform mitigation strategies.
- Oversee general household evaluations to gather detailed insights into living conditions, household dynamics, and resource needs.
- Develop data collection tools, including surveys, focus group discussions, and interviews.
- Gather qualitative and quantitative data using robust, ethical research methods.
- Analyse data to identify trends, patterns, and insights, ensuring findings are actionable and aligned with project goals.
- Produce high-quality reports that clearly communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Create data visualizations and presentations to ensure complex findings are easily understood.
- Contribute to the development of strategic plans and community engagement initiatives based on research outcomes.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current research methods and propose innovative approaches to enhance data quality and impact measurement.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and methodologies in community research, impact assessment, and participatory approaches.
- Provide recommendations for improving project outcomes and fostering sustainable development in the communities served.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and key stakeholders to ensure collaboration and trust.
- Facilitate community workshops, feedback sessions, and participatory discussions to validate findings and co-create solutions.
- Act as a liaison between Pele Energy Group and the communities to foster ongoing dialogue and mutual understanding.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
- 5+ years of demonstrable experience in needs assessments, social and health impact assessments, community surveys, and participatory research.
- Strong background in data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting, with proficiency in tools like Excel, SPSS, or R.
- Experience working in rural or underserved communities, particularly in South Africa or similar contexts.
- Knowledge of ethical research practices and community engagement principles.
- Familiarity with local government structures, policies, and frameworks related to community development.
- Research Design:
Proficiency in designing qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. - Data Analysis:
Strong analytical skills to interpret data and provide actionable insights. - Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations. - Community Engagement:
