About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Pharmaceutical Research Scientist specializing in Oncology to join their innovative research and development team in Sandton . This role is at the forefront of discovering and developing novel therapeutics to combat cancer. You will be responsible for designing and executing complex experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the early-stage drug discovery pipeline.

Working within a cutting-edge research facility, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists to advance promising drug candidates from discovery through to preclinical development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, conduct, and interpret in vitro and in vivo experiments to identify and validate new oncology drug targets and mechanisms of action.
  • Develop and optimize assays for drug screening and characterization.
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemists to guide the synthesis of novel therapeutic compounds.
  • Analyze experimental data using statistical and bioinformatics tools, and present findings clearly and concisely.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research reports, publications, and patent applications.
  • Stay current with the latest scientific literature and advancements in oncology drug discovery and translational research.
Requirements
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, or a related life science discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in oncology drug discovery.
  • Extensive experience with cancer cell lines, primary tumor cells, and relevant experimental techniques (e.g., cell-based assays, flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques).
  • Proven experience with in vivo models of cancer is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of scientific publications.
