Community Relations Manager - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Community Relations Manager to manage stakeholder engagement and social responsibility initiatives for their mining operations near Sandton . This role is crucial for building and maintaining positive relationships with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for developing and implementing community development programs, addressing grievances, and ensuring the social license to operate.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, a deep understanding of community development principles, and a commitment to fostering sustainable relationships within the mining sector .

• Develop and implement comprehensive community engagement strategies and social development plans.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for local communities, traditional authorities, and government officials.
• Manage the process for addressing community grievances and ensuring timely, fair resolutions.
• Oversee the implementation of socio-economic development projects, including local procurement and job creation initiatives.
• Monitor and report on community relations activities and social performance metrics.
• Liaise with internal teams (e.g., legal, operations, environmental) to ensure alignment on community matters.
• Organize and facilitate community meetings, consultations, and stakeholder forums.

• Degree in Social Sciences, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, or corporate social responsibility, preferably in the mining or extractive industries .
• Proven ability to build trust and rapport with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of social impact assessment and community development frameworks.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Familiarity with South African social and labour legislation pertaining to mining.
