Role overview
The CCM platform supports the UK Bank's client-facing communication capabilities, enabling internal consumers and systems to deliver SMS, voice messages, emails, OTPs, statements and branded client correspondence across key client journeys. The platform exists to provide a secure, scalable and governed communication capability underpinned by availability, reliability, performance and jurisdictional governance.
The Technical Lead will provide hands-on engineering leadership across the CCM estate, helping the team deliver reliable platform services, modernise legacy capability, improve engineering quality, strengthen operational maturity and support future platform growth.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to the CCM engineering squad, guiding solution design, implementation decisions and engineering standards. This aligned with the divisional head of engineering.
- Lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable and supportable services across APIs, integrations, messaging, email, document generation and platform capabilities.
- Work with the Platform Lead, Product Owner, engineers, analysts, architects, Info Sec and stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.
- Support modernisation of the CCM estate, including reducing legacy/on-premise risk, improving resilience and moving towards cloud-native and sustainable ‘platform as product' patterns.
- Drive good engineering practices across Dev Ops, automated testing, peer review, observability, documentation, secure coding and operational readiness.
- Support and coach the BAU/support operating model, including service management, triage, recovery readiness and application support practices.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, coaching, pairing and knowledge sharing.
- Help identify and manage technical debt, platform risks, resilience gaps and opportunities to simplify the estate.
- Contribute to technical recruitment by helping assess engineering capability and cultural fit.
Required experience and capability
- Strong hands-on software engineering experience, preferably in C#, .NET / .NET Core.
- Experience building and supporting cloud-based API services, preferably using Azure.
- Good understanding of API design, integration patterns, distributed systems and secure service development.
- Experience with Azure Dev Ops, CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Ability to design secure, scalable, testable and supportable applications.
- Experience with production systems, including monitoring, incident management, operational support and resilience improvement.
- Comfortable working with architects, Info Sec, analysts, product owners and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience modernising legacy systems or moving towards cloud-native / hybrid-cloud patterns would be advantageous.
- Exposure to messaging, email, push notification, OTP, document generation or communication platforms would be beneficial.
