Looking for your next move in engineering procurement?
Our client is looking for a commercially minded Buyer to join their Operations team in Sandwich. This is a varied purchasing role within an engineering environment, offering the opportunity to work closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure materials and services are sourced efficiently, competitively and in line with business requirements.
You'll play an important part in the procurement process, from sourcing suppliers and negotiating costs through to placing orders, monitoring deliveries and reviewing supplier performance. Working alongside Engineering, Quality and other departments, you'll help ensure the business has the right materials available at the right time and at the right cost.
If you have a background in engineering or manufacturing procurement, enjoy building supplier relationships and are confident managing multiple priorities, this could be an excellent next step.
What will you be doing?
 
* Sourcing materials and services, obtaining competitive quotations and negotiating with suppliers.
 
* Preparing and issuing RFQs and RFIs, reviewing responses and comparing costs to support purchasing decisions.
 
* Raising and managing purchase orders and purchase requisitions, ensuring requirements are accurately recorded.
 
* Working with Engineering to assess supplier suitability and with Quality to monitor supplier performance.
 
* Preparing costings and manufacturing estimates to support sales and engineering activities.
 
* Expediting orders and liaising with suppliers to ensure deliveries meet operational deadlines.
 
* Investigating invoice queries and assisting with import clearance requirements.
 
* Producing purchasing reports and analysing supplier costs and performance.
 
* Supporting continuous improvement across purchasing processes and wider Operations activities.
What are we looking for?
You'll ideally have experience in a Buyer or procurement position within an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment, with the commercial awareness to balance cost, quality and delivery requirements.
We're particularly interested in people who have:
 
* Experience sourcing and purchasing engineering or manufacturing materials.
 
* Strong negotiation skills and confidence communicating with suppliers.
 
* A good understanding of purchasing processes and engineering terminology.
 
* Experience using MRP systems and managing purchase requisitions.
 
* The ability to analyse quotations, costs and complex information.
 
* Excellent organisation, prioritisation and follow-up skills.
 
* A proactive approach to resolving issues and maintaining supplier relationships.
