Join our fun and supportive community at Burgess Outdoor Education & Retreat Center, a YMCA facility located a short drive from the ocean on beautiful Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Our forested property sits on over 300 acres, featuring three freshwater ponds, high and low ropes courses, a climbing tower, an educational farm, a recreational waterfront, hiking trails, and dining and overnight facilities.
Basepay range
$570.00 per week - $610.00 per week (included lifeguard certification)
Job OverviewThis leadership role supports outdoor education programs for seasonal youth groups. Applicants may apply for one, two, or all three seasons, with preference for those available for all three.
Seasonal Roles- Spring
- Manage and liaise with visiting groups during their stay.
- Teach experiential outdoor programs to overnight youth groups, focusing on environmental education, team‑building, and leadership development.
- Summer
- Join our adventure trips team or summer camp staff, engaging youth ages 7‑17 in a residential camp setting.
- Fall
- Manage and liaise with visiting groups during their stay.
- Teach experiential outdoor programs to overnight youth groups, focusing on environmental education, team‑building, and leadership development.
- Lead daily coordination and communication of outdoor education programming between instructors, school groups, and participants.
- Plan, develop, and update outdoor education curriculum aligned with program goals.
- Mentor and support 5‑10 outdoor education staff.
- Assist with housekeeping, groundskeeping, and dining operations.

August 15 – Early/Mid November
Expect long, rewarding days outdoors in all elements. Daily hours are tailored to guest needs. For the outdoor education seasons you will have two days off for every five days worked. Summer hours vary by role.
Compensation and BenefitsPay: $570 per week ($610 with lifeguard certification). We provide comfortable staff housing, all meals while working, kitchen access, laundry facilities, and free internet. Additional benefits include support from experienced staff and access to a wide range of outdoor recreation equipment.
Qualifications- Passion for working outdoors with youth, teens, and adults.
- Desire to facilitate environmental, team‑building, and challenge course programs.
- 21 + years old with a degree in a relevant area or equivalent life experience.
- Positive team‑player in a collaborative residential setting.
- Interest in strengthening leadership skills and mentoring seasonal staff.
- Physical ability to spend long, active hours outdoors safely facilitating others.
- Previous outdoor education experience required.
