Position: Equipment Specialist (Night Shift)

Overview

Equipment Specialist (Night Shift) at BD Nogales Norte. The Equipment Specialist (ES) reports directly to the Department Shift Coach and is responsible for performing routine setup, daily maintenance, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment via manual or semi-automated means. The ES controls and adjusts machine settings, inspects in-process parts to ensure consistent quality, and removes defective product, packaging, and component material. The ES assists with root-cause analysis for process or product exceptions and identifies/escalates any issues related to machine performance and/or product quality.

Job Summary

As an Equipment Specialist, you will operate and maintain machines/equipment used in the production of medical devices. Your primary role is to ensure efficient and smooth operation of the equipment to meet production targets and maintain product quality. You participate in all team meetings, activities, team-building initiatives, and operational excellence activities.

Responsibilities
  • Operates multiple processes on or around high speed automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Participates in equipment changeovers or set-ups.
  • Monitors assigned processes to ensure high quality production.
  • Responds to machine faults and restores to normal operation.
  • Participates in autonomous maintenance to maintain assigned equipment/area.
  • Drives to meet or exceed all expected line/zone performance.
  • Removes defective product from automated or semi-automated processes.
  • Maintains accurate records and documents as required.
  • Continuously improves through Kaizen Action Sheet (KAS) program.
  • Produces high quality products per task documents.
  • Maintains equipment and a clean area by performing cleaning tasks.
  • Maintains open communication to ensure problems/changes are communicated and resolved timely.
  • Participates in root cause analysis to identify and resolve issues as needed.
  • Participates in start-up meetings, 5S, and Kaizen events for tier 1 shifts.
  • Supports and maintains a safe working environment including submitting safety observations (ESO).
  • Willingness to rotate into different tasks and responsibilities as needed.
  • Ability to train other associates as needed.
  • Ability to identify production issues and clearly communicate to support functions.
  • Complies with all local, state, federal, and BD safety & quality regulations and practices through sound quality assurance principles.
Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma/GED or 1 year consecutive work experience.
Preferred
  • 2 years on-the-job experience.
Skills
  • Must be able to read & write in English and communicate verbally in English.
  • Effectively work in a team and communicate across the department.
  • Ability to work on semi-routine assignments and recognize deviations from specifications.
  • Ability to operate independently within approved process documentation.
  • Ability to analyze/evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams, and perform basic arithmetic.
  • Basic proficiency with PCs and Windows environment.
Work Environment & Physical Functions
  • Work in a clean room or laboratory manufacturing environment; reasonable accommodations available for disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Stand and/or sit for extended periods; perform bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, climbing, balancing, pushing/pulling, repetitive motion, and other movements.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally pull/push up to 30 pounds, frequently 10 pounds, carry up to 5 pounds; exposure to loud machinery, temperature fluctuations, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Normal vision corrected to 20/40 in each eye; hearing sufficient to operate material handling equipment; willing to wear PPE (safety glasses, mask/shield, hearing protection, safety shoes, hair/beard net, smock).
