The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in managing all on‑field elements of Real Salt Lake. The assistant coach plays a critical role in enhancing team performance, creating effective training programs, and fostering a positive and cohesive team culture. The position requires a deep understanding of the game, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with players, coaching staff, and team management.

Functions
  • Collaborates with the Head Coach to design and implement a comprehensive training program that enhances player skills, tactics, and fitness levels.
  • Conducts training sessions that are well organized, focused, and aligned with team goals and strategies.
  • Utilizes video analysis tools and statistical data to evaluate player performance, track progress, and identify areas for improvement. Provides constructive feedback, guidance, and personalized training plans to maximize player potential.
  • Assists in analyzing opponents' tactics and strategies, contributes to the development of game plans, and provides valuable insights and recommendations to the head coach.
  • Helps prepare players mentally and physically for each match.>
  • Collaborates with the Head Coach during matches to make tactical adjustments and provides strategic advice. Guides players effectively during high‑pressure situations.
  • Assists in scouting for new talent and draft prospects.
  • Translate analysis into tactical set‑piece coaching during training and matches, collaborating with the Head Coach to integrate set‑play preparation and ensure tactical clarity and execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Professional qualifications of USSF B license (or equivalent from an approved federation)
  • Professional coaching experience at a professional level.
  • Ability to pass a background check and become Safe Sport certified.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate player performance using video analysis tools and statistical data.
  • Outstanding knowledge of the sport and detailed understanding of current and developing tactics, coaching methods, analytics, and training methods.
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (e.g., performance, analytics, medical, and operations staff).
  • Proficiency with modern coaching technologies (e.g., Hudl, Sports code, Wyscout, GPS tracking, or similar performance analytics tools).
  • Proven experience in developing individual player development plans and fostering player growth at the professional level.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion when handling player or team information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional qualifications of USSF A license (or equivalent from an approved federation)
  • Possess a strong understanding of MLS rules and protocols.
  • Playing experience at a professional or collegiate level.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) to effectively communicate with a diverse player group.
  • Experience working within a Major League Soccer (MLS) or comparable international league environment.
  • Knowledge of sports science principles and workload management best practices.
Physical Demands And Work Environment

This role requires frequent standing, walking, running, and demonstrating soccer techniques during training sessions in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions. It involves regular travel for away matches, scouting, and off‑site training sessions, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position may occasionally require lifting or carrying equipment of up to 25 pounds and demands the ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment that requires focus, adaptability, and clear communication.
