Overview

Adjunct Faculty are responsible for teaching assigned courses, which includes developing and posting syllabi, preparing and delivering instruction, designing assignments and assessments, grading student work, and providing timely, constructive feedback. In addition, Adjunct Faculty are expected to engage in professional development, effectively utilize the College’s Online Learning Management System (CANVAS), and maintain open communication with students, colleagues, and supervisors. They may also contribute to curriculum improvement efforts aimed at enhancing student success.

Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty are responsible for teaching assigned courses, which includes developing and posting syllabi, preparing for and delivering instruction, designing assignments and assessments, grading student work, and providing timely, constructive feedback. They are expected to engage in professional development, utilize the College’s Online Learning Management System (CANVAS), and maintain open communication with students, colleagues, and supervisors. They may also contribute to curriculum improvement efforts aimed at enhancing student success.

Essential

Functions

The responsibility of Adjunct Faculty is to teach classes as assigned. Duties related to the teaching of a course include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Developing a course syllabus in the format determined by the College and posting said syllabus to the College approved system by college posted deadlines.
  • Preparing for and delivering class, studio, clinical, or lab instruction; at days, times, modalities and locations determined by the College.
  • Using assigned instructional materials to plan and deliver instruction designed to enhance student learning.
  • Developing or modifying assignments, assessments and other course materials to support and evaluate student understanding of course learning outcomes established in the course syllabus and per department guidelines.
  • Grading student work and providing constructive feedback to students in a timely fashion, including resolution of incomplete or disputed grades.
  • Participating in professional development opportunities offered by the college and department.
  • Validating textbooks, posting course syllabi, class/grade rosters, and submitting final student grades by established deadlines.
  • Remaining current with how to use the College’s Online Learning Management System (currently CANVAS) as required by departmental guidelines.
  • Responding in a timely fashion to communication from students, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Meeting with students individually to review course work as needed.
  • Adjunct faculty may work with other faculty in support of curricula improvement as appropriate to promote students' success and mastery of course and program competencies.
Required Qualifications

Option 1:
Associate's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in the following:

  • Building Construction
  • Certified Trade Contractor
  • Engineering Technology
  • Industrial/Plant Technology

Option 2: NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Level 2 or higher

AND

Minimum of six years of appropriate documented work experience where at least two of those years include a supervisory/management role.

Option 3: State-recognized Journeyman per the Florida Administrative code, Chapter 38H-16.002(9,10)

AND

NICET level 1 or a Fire Protection Inspector license from the division of state Fire Marshall and a minimum of six years of appropriate documented work experience where at least two of those years include a supervisory/management role

Option 4:
State-recognized Journeyman per the Florida Administration code, Chapter 38H-16.002(9,10)

AND

Minimum of six years of appropriate documented work experience where at least two of those years include a supervisory/management role.

  • Note:

    Acceptable documentation includes a Certificate of Apprenticeship plus six years of documented work experience, including supervisory role as noted above.
