Overview

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the position of CIVILIAN INVESTIGATOR, RISK MANAGEMENT
. This position involves specialized work responsible for gathering, receiving, and processing information to assist with Risk Management, Vehicle Claim Subrogation, Risk Protection Orders (RPOs) and other duties as assigned by the Chief Counsel. This position supports the Sheriff’s Office by investigating liability matters, assisting with legal documentation, ensuring compliance with statutory and agency requirements, and performing analytical and investigative functions related to safety, claims, and RPO petitions.

Salary is negotiable based upon related training, education, and experience.

Duties Related to Risk Management

• Investigate complex cases involving liability such as workplace injuries, property damage, or policy compliance issues.
• Analyze, review, and interpret laws, policies, and regulations to ensure compliance and to identify areas of risk.
• Develop and recommend strategies to prevent future incidents and mitigate risk.
• Assist with updating relevant General Orders, Standard Operating Procedures, and other polices, to ensure accuracy, compliance, and reflection of current agency practices.
• Ensure that post-incident procedures are followed in accordance with General Orders and all related policy requirements.
• Prepare detailed written reports, summaries, and recommendations for the Risk Management Director.

Duties Related to Vehicle Claim Subrogation

• Review, process, and investigate all claims involving vehicle accidents.
• Gather and analyze evidence, including accident reports, witness statements, photographs, and vehicle inspections.
• Create and maintain legal claim files consistent with agency documentation standards.
• Assist in reviewing in-car video and body-worn camera footage to support claim evaluations.
• Coordinate with other agency divisions as necessary to ensure accurate claim resolution and subrogation tracking.

Duties Related to Risk Protection Orders (RPOs)

• Receive, process, and investigate all Risk Protection Order requests and ensure timely action in accordance with Florida Statute § 790.401.
• Review all RPO case materials; conduct interviews to gather and corroborate information as needed.
• Conduct criminal history, background, and database checks through CAFÉ, DAVID, FCIC/NCIC, FINDER, and other systems.
• Prepare legal petitions and supporting documentation summarizing findings, statements, and evidence for submission to the court.
• Answer calls and emails regarding RPOs and provide information to the public, deputies, and legal staff.
• May serve as the agency’s RPO Liaison to community partners.
• May plan and conduct internal training or community programs to educate others about RPO procedures and responsibilities.

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
• Two (2) years of responsible experience in a legal office, risk management environment, or criminal justice work. Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must obtain FCIC/NCIC Certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Internal applicants must have completed the Sheriff’s Office one-year probationary period.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Must become a Florida Notary Public within one (1) year of employment or assignment.
• Must be willing and able to attend the FDLE Analyst Academy if required to do so.
