Job PurposeThe Painting Technician is responsible for the surface preparation and application of paint products in accordance with customer/client specifications and requirements. Typical items painted include transformers, breakers and other utility substation equipment. The technician utilizes sprayers, brushes, rollers and flow coating as needed. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and may involve working near moving mechanical parts, at height and in hazardous environments.

- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
- Apply paint products in accordance with NASS / Customer and SSPC specifications & requirements.
- Follow and understand standard work, training guides, procedures and acceptance criteria to meet customer requirements.
- Use industrial paint equipment and various hand tools.
- Maintain and clean spray gun, flow coat machine and related equipment.
- Report inconsistencies and/or defects in material, product or equipment.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that collaborates with customers, clients, co‑workers and management.
- Help the company meet its quality and safety objectives.
- Basic understanding of electrical safety protocols including clearances, approach distances, and LOTO.
Required
- State‑issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Able and willing to travel up to 75% with short‑notice availability.
- Successfully complete a pre‑employment and random drug screen.
- Clean criminal background.
- Work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Work at heights from a man‑lift, other elevated platforms, and safely climb ladders and/or stairs.
- Stoop, crouch, kneel and bend as well as walk, sit, and stand for significant periods of time.
Preferred
- Basic computer knowledge (Windows, email, internet).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working as a substation painter.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Minimum one year related work experience.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor or in a team environment.
