Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Assembly Technician is responsible for the teardown and reassembly work on, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, including all Fire Division and Rescue (EMS) Division vehicles, including small gas engines and other associated equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Disassemble emergency response vehicles for repair and refurbishment.
- Reassemble, install, and wire emergency response equipment such as lights, sirens, radios, in-vehicle computers, and control systems.
- Modify and retrofit vehicles to meet customer specifications.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Perform quality control checks and functional tests on all installed systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems to ensure proper operation.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and vehicle status.
- Follow safety protocols and comply with electrical codes and vehicle safety regulations.
- Work with the painter and manager to meet delivery timelines.
- Assist in inventory control, shop maintenance, and general facility upkeep.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Assembly experience preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to create standard correspondence. Proficient verbal communication skills in English are required
- Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics, algebra, and geometry
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variances in standardized specifications.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
: Must be able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept directions on given assignments.
- Skill in using hand tools.
- Ability to attend job training, as required.
