The Security Officer II aids in providing the day-to-day security operations in providing a safe environment and College personnel/property protection using industry-standard crime prevention techniques to minimize or reduce campus crimes. Serves as a shift lead in the absence of the supervisor and helps coordinate shift operations when the supervisor is present. Ensures investigation and security-related incidents are done per department standards and provides information and research.

Serves as a shift lead in the absence of the supervisor and helps coordinate shift operations when the supervisor is present. Ensures investigation and security-related incidents are done per department standards and provides information and research.

Essential

Functions
  • Responds to emergencies of a medical, criminal, and mechanical nature; and uses Incident Command System/National Incident Management System (ICS/NIMS) model for emergency preparedness and response.
  • Assists in investigating incidents, interviewing participants and witnesses, completing incident reports, and documenting the issues.
  • Assists in investigating employee and student injuries and public accident incidents (e.g. interviews involved parties and college personnel; visits sites, takes photos and measurements) to ensure procedures are followed and any safety hazards are corrected.
  • Conducts security audits and site surveys in conjunction with the shift supervisor to identify security risks; recommends, implements, and monitors appropriate processes to reduce property and financial loss.
  • Patrols College properties to ensure a safe environment for college students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Provides traffic education enforcement, and traffic management to the College community to prevent accidents and congestion via courtesy warnings and citations.
  • Serves as shift lead in the absence of the supervisor serves and assists with coordinating shift operations when the supervisor is present.
  • Coordinates the opening and locking down of buildings at the close of classes and operations.
  • Coordinates and records information on persons entering buildings after business hours and identifies persons on College property when the College is closed.
  • Maintains and tracks department equipment (e.g., radios, keys, lockout equipment) and coordinates monthly maintenance of security vehicles.
  • Coordinates and organizes the lost & found property according to department standards and procedures.
  • Monitors and coordinates compliance with standard operating procedures for loss prevention, physical security, and risk management.
  • Provides customer service to college personnel, students, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Two years of experience as a security officer/guard or in a position with similar duties.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment, with acceptable driving record.
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid/AED. If not currently certified, must become certified within six months of employment. Certification must be kept current and active.
  • Security or related training certificate that meets or exceeds security requirements under Florida Statute 493 Class D License required. Certification must be kept current and active.
Desired Qualifications
  • College coursework towards a degree or certificate in criminal justice or public administration.
