We are looking for a Locomotive Electrician for our Sanford, Florida facility.
In your role as a Locomotive Electrician, you will:
Diagnose faults and solve common electrical problems on High and Low Voltage systems. Perform preventive maintenance inspections to prevent system breakdowns and maximize electrical usability. You must understand safety procedures involved with installation and be comfortable using hand tools. Follow local, state, and national electric codes. Troubleshoot electrical issues that may arise.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, analyze, detect faults, and repair locomotive electrical and train control systems, sub-systems, and components.
- Perform modifications from drawings, prints, or electrical systems on locomotives as assigned.
- Conduct fault detection and diagnostics using microprocessor and diagnostic equipment.
- Install and maintain electrical wiring and equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Ensure compliance with all railroad safety, operations, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations.
- Operate locomotive, passenger coaches, and prime mover as part of a team to move rail equipment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in accordance with union agreement and work rules.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License
- At least 4 years of experience working as an electrician in an industrial environment
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
- Experience interpreting circuit schematics
Preferred Qualifications:
- Verbal comprehension skills (understanding oral and written communications, both general and technical)
- Effective communication skills (providing clear instructions)
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Mechanical aptitude and basic electrical theory knowledge
- Ability to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualification
- Meet regulatory medical qualifications for Maintenance Facility Engineer and Maintenance Facility Conductor
- Clean driving record with no moving violations for alcohol or substance abuse within the past 36 months
- Proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook)
Physical Requirements:
- Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds rarely
- Regularly stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, balance, and climb
- Push, pull, grip, and carry regularly
- Auditory and visual acuity
- Occasional exposure to heat-intensive equipment
Employment Conditions:
- Work safely to prevent accidents and injuries
- Wear protective equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, and safety glasses
- Work hours may include nonstandard shifts, overtime, and various schedules
- Complete annual safety training and pass safety exams
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing
- Pass all required assessments and a post-offer medical examination
- Membership in the collective bargaining agreement is required
- Active employees must complete one year in current position before applying for other positions
