The Painting Technician is responsible for surface preparation and the application of paint products in accordance with customer/client specifications. Typical items include transformers, breakers, and other substation equipment. Duties involve utilizing sprayers, brushes, rollers, and flow coating as needed, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including PPE usage.
- Apply paint products per NASS/Customer and SSPC specifications.
- Follow standard work, training guides, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
- Operate industrial paint equipment and hand tools.
- Maintain and clean spray guns, flow coat machines, and related equipment.
- Report inconsistencies or defects in material, product, or equipment.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by collaborating with customers, clients, co‑workers, and management.
- Help the company meet its quality and safety objectives.
- Understand basic electrical safety protocols, including clearances, approach distances, and LOTO.
- State‑issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% with short‑notice availability.
- Success in pre‑employment and random drug screens.
- Clean criminal background.
- Capacity to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to work at heights from raised platforms, ladders, or stairs.
- Capability to stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, walk, sit, and stand for extended periods.
- Basic computer knowledge (Windows, email, internet).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience as a substation painter.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Minimum one year of related work experience.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor or within a team.
