Overview

JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER SUPV - SES -  1 Join to apply for the JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER SUPV - SES -  1 role at State of Florida.

Responsibilities
  • Provide social services to assist in rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation. Make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations.
  • Coordinate work and supervise employees, assign work, review progress and assess performance.
  • Supervise employees, communicate with youth, families, and staff; motivate, train and evaluate staff; plan and direct workflows.
  • Case Management/Reviews: screening and intake, assign tasks, review cases to ensure home and school visits, initiate contact with youth/family/victim/law enforcement, and engage in needs assessment using Motivational Interviewing.
  • Review case documentation to ensure proper administration of risk/needs assessments and instruments; facilitate assessments and ensure referrals for services as needed.
  • Develop case management strategies based on assessments; ensure service referrals are made and follow-up actions completed.
  • Approve supervision and treatment recommendations with stakeholders (State Attorney, courts) to provide appropriate services with minimal intrusion.
  • Ensure safety planning discussions with youth and family, and review screening instruments and reports used by the Department and courts.
  • Act as DJJ representative during court hearings; ensure recommendations are based on information gathered through screening, assessment, intake and supervision processes.
  • Case Management/Reviews: supervision of court processes, detention screenings, and ensuring department policy is followed in court-related matters.
  • Maintain case files, ensure staff discuss and present relevant information to the court, and communicate outcomes to all affected parties.
  • Case Management/Reviews: supervision processes, including home visits, school visits, non-traditional hours, and coordination of services for youth and families.
  • Records Management: conduct JJIS data entry and reviews, maintain case notebooks, and share provider contact information with families.
  • Maintain communication with schools, law enforcement, care providers, and other agencies to address community concerns and promote safe communities.
  • Supervision of Employees, Special Assignments and Training: provide leadership, professional development, case reviews, and policy input; oversee training and staffing workloads; ensure compliance with People First requirements.
  • Accomplish administrative duties including hiring actions, travel, purchasing, and property management; ensure reportable incidents are reported timely.
  • Provide liaison support among department staff, providers, community organizations and the court; participate in committees and projects; identify community resources and support for youth.
  • Special notes: JPO Supervisor roles require non-traditional hours; maintain CPR/First Aid; ensure CPR/First Aid certifications are kept up to date.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of case management practices; interviewing and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to counsel and provide guidance; make recommendations on processing and disposition of delinquent youth.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate work, supervise and motivate staff; determine priorities and ensure completion of work.
  • Strong listening, verbal and written communication; ability to understand and apply laws, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and community/judicial partners; act as liaison as defined by the department.
  • Ability to incorporate safe work practices and maintain a professional, safe work environment; ability to conduct and document interviews.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of experience working directly with adolescents in criminal justice or social services fields as listed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, or an associate degree with two years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience as a Juvenile Probation Officer, volunteers or interns with DJJ or similar programs; experience with youth under JPO supervision.
  • Two years of experience working with youth as a certified JPO; relevant concentrations in social sciences.
Other Requirements and Notes
  • 985.66 Florida Statute requirements: be at least 19 years old, high school graduate, no felony or disqualifying misdemeanor, comply with fingerprinting and background checks.
  • Affidavit of application and compliance statements required; false disclosures are a misdemeanor.
  • Non-traditional hours, CPR/First Aid valid; E-Verify employment eligibility; valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire if initially out-of-state.
  • Direct-care certification within 180 days of employment;
    Ergometric IMPACT assessment may be required for direct-care roles.
