Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Sanford

OverviewSanford, ME:
Maine Behavioral Healthcare/Southern Maine Health Care has an opening for a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PPA) to provide overnight psychiatric and medical care for hospitalized adults, adolescents, and children. The position is from an awake overnight NP or PA from 4pm to 8am 2 days per week with an additional 16 hrs overnight every other week (for a 40 hr week) or an 8 hr day shift weekly.
The position will be shared with 2 other providers covering the week. The primary role of this position will include assisting with admission orders, ongoing acute evaluation of existing patients, and assisting with nighttime orders that may be emergently needed. There is 24 hour support available from the hospitalist service by phone, the 24 hour Emergency department at the Sanford campus, and from the SMHC Psychiatry Medical Director and Vice President of Medical Affairs of Intensive Services.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Master's degree with an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice, and additional medical training.
- 1+ years of patient care in a community mental health center or hospital.
- Advanced skill and knowledge in conducting psychiatric evaluations and treating patients.
- Current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant by the Maine State Board of Licensure and qualified to do psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
- Specific credentialing criteria needed if working in the hospital as defined by Medical Staff By-Laws.
