Position: Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach (865)

Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach – Sanford High School

Sanford High School is seeking an Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach. As the assistant coach you will deliver measurable results in developing, enhancing, and promoting an athletic program that will be distinguished by the team’s display of integrity, citizenship, character, work ethic, and the ability to overcome adversity.

Must have knowledge and expertise in the strategies, methods, and techniques of baseball and provide instruction through games and practices. Should have the ability to manage all aspects of the baseball team and have earned or will earn credentials of Maine Coaches, including CPR/First Aid and Current Maine CHRC (fingerprinting).

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the student athletes during practices and competition and assist the head coach with proper preparation and planning.
  • Assist the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Assist the head coach with off‑season programs to help players enhance their abilities.
  • Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward students, officials, and spectators.
  • Organize and direct individual and small‑group practice activities and exercises as directed by the head coach.
  • Assess player skills and monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of athlete performance.
  • Assist with determining game strategy.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury and work with the trainer, head coach, and director of athletics to ensure proper medical assistance is available.
  • Assist in the distribution of equipment, supplies, and uniforms and in the collection at the end of the season.
  • Participate in special activities, including parent’s night and awards night.
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Administer the district athletic codes and work to enhance and display the philosophy and objectives of the department.
  • Perform such other duties, consistent with this position, as determined by the head coach, principal, or athletic director.
Qualifications
  • Schedule must be flexible, including evenings and weekends.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Previous experience working with high‑school‑aged athletes preferred.
