Job DescriptionThe EHS Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs and systems that promote operational excellence. This role works closely with site leadership to foster a proactive and engaged safety culture focused on risk reduction and loss prevention. The EHS Specialist assists in ensuring compliance with applicable legislative, corporate, and industry standards through effective program execution, monitoring, and follow‑up.
This position will be based in Sanford, NC with travel up to 10%.
Key Accountabilities- Partner with site leadership to promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and regulatory compliance.
- Support site safety programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with OSHA and company standards.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Support training delivery including safety orientation, annual refresher, and task‑specific training.
- Partner with operations to implement engineering and administrative controls that enhance workplace safety.
- Maintain EHS records including training, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Maintain safety metrics, analyze trends, and present findings to leadership.
- Participate in safety committees and help drive employee engagement in EHS initiatives.
- Promote safe work behaviors and coach associates on hazard recognition and prevention.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate EHS into daily operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce risk, and strengthen safety culture.
- Assist with compliance activities related to environmental permits, waste management, air emissions, wastewater, and spill prevention.
- Support environmental inspections, record‑keeping, and reporting requirements.
- Help implement pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives at the site level.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or related field.
- 0-3 years of relevant EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment (internship experience considered).
- Attention to detail and capability to analyze data and make sound conclusions.
- Strong aptitude for organization, prioritization and managing multiple tasks at the same time.
- Ability to actively participate in team‑oriented processes influence team engagement and to drive team decision‑making to conclusions/solutions.
- Must possess a working knowledge of applicable state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
