Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Organization. This position can be located in San Diego or Palmdale, CA;
Clearfield, UT;
St. Augustine or Melbourne, FL locations. Advanced Manufacturing Technology is developing innovative cutting-edge technologies that require a creative thinking individual.
- Provide leadership and direction to ensure technology initiatives and opportunities for process improvements are identified, pursued, and supported.
- Develop architectures and concepts for advanced digital technologies with a focus on implementation within Northrop Grumman.
- Interact with customers (internal and external).
- Collaborate with colleges, universities, government, and suppliers as part of development and improvement projects.
- Introduce and develop new technologies for the manufacturing floor.
- Lead projects with cross-functional teams of high-performing engineers developing advanced systems designs and concepts.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative engineering solutions.
- Apply new technologies and common designs to enable rapid development, prototyping, and affordable solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of engineering experience; or Master’s degree with 10 years; or PhD with 8 years.
- Secret Clearance Periodic Re-investigation within the last 5 years.
- Knowledge of data gathering, cleansing, and transformation techniques.
- Experience with data science toolkits/languages such as Python, R, scikit-learn, PyTorch/Tensor Flow, matplotlib, numpy, C++, or Python.
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies.
- Experience with model uncertainty analysis, error modelling, and/or error propagation.
- Knowledge of best practices in data analysis and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience developing mathematical models of dynamic systems from first principles and with System Identification techniques using statistical methods to validate models with test data.
- Experience with data acquisition systems and post-processing of experimental test data.
- Fluent with Python or Matlab.
- Documenting processes and maintaining data records.
- Secret Clearance Periodic Re-investigation within the last 5 years.
- Special Access Program (SAP) Current.
- Experience in hardware/software integration of manufacturing systems.
- Experience with querying databases (MS SQL) for data analysis and reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with high-volume production ETL pipelines.
- Experience with digital manufacturing, IIoT, AR/VR, and related production/manufacturing operations.
- Working knowledge of classified information systems infrastructure.
- Architecture, design & integration experience for engineering systems and software.
- Technical writing capability and project/program management skills (proposal creation, scheduling, budget tracking).
- Strong familiarity with process development and controls.
- Ability to lead through obstacles, adapt to change, and help others do the same.
- Ability to travel 10-15% of the time.
Primary Level Salary Range: $ - $
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
