Position SummaryThe therapist plays a crucial role in a client’s recovery journey by creating individualized treatment plans and collaborating with a team to support holistic goals. A therapist is responsible for providing individual and group therapy during the client’s mental health or substance abuse treatment. A therapist will have an assigned caseload and will be responsible for one-on-one sessions to ensure clients explore the root causes, understand patterns of behavior, and develop coping strategies.
A therapist will also provide group sessions for the general census. The ultimate goal is to assist clients in recognizing their behavioral illness and to motivate clients to actively participate in their own recovery and treatment process, assisting them with learning skills, and gain knowledge to improve their lives. The therapist designs and manages all clinical aspects of the treatment program in accordance with state and JCAHO standards.
- Builds strong, supportive therapeutic relationships using diverse modalities such as CBT, DBT, and MI. Integrates trauma-informed care to support clients through avoidance and resistance, focusing on their holistic needs.
- Collect information about clients, using techniques such as assessments, tests, interviews, discussions, and observations. Adapts interventions based on clients’ progress and challenges, ensuring they are engaged and making meaningful progress.
- Holds clients accountable while providing emotional support and empathy.
- Develops individualized treatment plans with clear, measurable goals that align with the client’s needs. Applies various therapeutic approaches effectively, refining strategies and evaluation based on ongoing assessment.
- Incorporates client history and potential barriers into treatment planning for long-term recovery. Regularly adapts treatment plans to align with clients' changing needs and progress.
- Tracks and documents client behavior, progress, and any obstacles to treatment. All charts, program documentation, medication management, incident reports and other forms/reports and completed in a timely (within 72 hours (about 3 days) of provided service), objective (behavioral observations are recorded accurately), thorough, and legible manner.
- Maintains high documentation standards, reflecting clinical rationale for treatment decisions and supporting treatment authorizations.
- Effectively manages crises with minimal supervision, remaining calm and focused during high-stress situations.
- Proactively addresses potential crises, offering clients appropriate resources and support. Act as a client advocate to coordinate required services to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
- Leads and facilitates engaging group therapy sessions, building a strong community among participants. Identifies when clients need additional support to engage deeply and fosters a safe, respectful environment.
- Maintains strong attendance and participation by adapting group dynamics and content to meet diverse client needs.
- Uses a variety of methodologies, including psycho-educational, skills development, CBT, DBT, support, and interpersonal process groups. Develops and leads creative, effective group content that aligns with clients' therapeutic goals.
- Confidently facilitates specialized groups (e.g., grief, trauma), integrating evidence- based interventions.
