Position OverviewAs aTax Associate, you will assist in the preparation of individual and business tax returns, primarily focusing on high-net-worth clients. You will work closely with the principal CPA, gaining valuable exposure to complex tax issues, compliance, and planning strategies. As you gain more experience, there will be opportunity to begin to review tax returns and mentor entry-level staff. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career in public accounting while being mentored by an experienced CPA.
The Tax Associate position is permanent, full-time (40 hrs/week), and in person.
Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of federal and state individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns (Form 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041, etc.).
- Review client tax documents and financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct tax research to support preparation and planning activities.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding tax-related questions and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members to manage client projects and deadlines.
- Stay up to date on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and be aware of potential tax savings strategies.
- Assist with special projects, including tax planning, estate planning, and IRS/CA FTB audits as needed.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Experience:
- 1-3 years in tax preparation or related accounting field (internships or part-time work experience will be considered).
Skills:
- Strong understanding of tax principles, tax preparation, and accounting fundamentals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and Windows operating system.
- Experience with tax software (CCH Axcess or Pro System fx preferred) and Quick Books a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and accept feedback
- Ability to manage several tasks and projects at once.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Professional, positive attitude with a client-service mindset
- Working knowledge of tax laws related to high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
- Previous experience in a large local or regional public accounting firm.
- Active CPA License or progress towards CPA certification is desirable.
