Bookkeeper

Description

We are looking for a dependable part-time Bookkeeper to support daily financial operations for a well-established organization in Santa Barbara, California. This contract position offers the opportunity to contribute across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general bookkeeping while working closely with finance leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, a steady work history, and the ability to manage deadlines independently in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:

- Process vendor payments and customer billing activities with accuracy, ensuring transactions are recorded properly and completed on schedule.

- Administer payroll for a workforce that includes both regular employees and a larger population of event-based union workers, maintaining compliance with current payroll practices.

- Maintain financial records in Quick Books and support bookkeeping tasks such as account balancing, transaction review, and documentation management.

- Reconcile bank activity and investigate discrepancies promptly to keep financial data current and reliable.

- Use Excel and other Microsoft Office tools to prepare reports, track financial activity, and organize supporting information for the finance team.

- Coordinate multiple accounting deadlines at once, prioritizing urgent items and escalating issues when additional guidance is needed.

- Partner with internal leadership in a collaborative, team-oriented manner while adapting to changing workload needs and project demands.

- Provide day-to-day support across AP, AR, and payroll functions depending on business needs and assigned scope of work.

Requirements - At least 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting support experience in a detail-oriented business environment.

- Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.

- Proficiency with Quick Books and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

- Ability to work onsite and manage responsibilities with minimal training.

- Proven track record of handling high-volume financial transactions while meeting competing deadlines.

- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the confidence to raise concerns when necessary.

- Detail-oriented demeanor with a collaborative approach, openness to feedback, and a consistent employment history.

- Payroll experience is highly valued, and experience supporting payroll processes or payroll environments is a plus.
