Job Functions and Percentages of Time- 30% High School and Community College Outreach
The incumbent conducts outreach at high schools and community colleges to inform prospective UCSB students, parents, counselors, and educators about admission policies and practices, and to encourage students—particularly underrepresented students—to apply and enroll in UCSB. Outreach primarily occurs in the fall. Specific duties include initiating visits, meeting with parents and prospective students, delivering oral and multimedia presentations, maintaining knowledge of all campus aspects, representing UCSB at professional conferences, and advising on academic records.
The incumbent serves as a member of the Admissions Selection Committee and reviews application files to recommend freshman admission. - 20% Special Event Planning – Committee Member
The incumbent assists in coordinating special events, both on campus and throughout California. Duties include developing new initiatives, coordinating Chancellor’s Regional Receptions and Open Houses, liaising with relevant departments, and encouraging high-achieving admitted students to participate in the Chancellor’s Regional Receptions.
- 50% Applicant Advocacy
The incumbent counsels and advises newly admitted students and their parents regarding admission, enrollment, housing, financial aid, course selection, and other concerns. The role serves as a liaison between admitted students and multiple university units—EOP, Financial Aid, Admissions, Orientation, Housing, and student organizations—to address special needs and questions in a timely manner.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population
- Working knowledge of UC and the ability to interpret policies and procedures for prospective applicants and the public
- Understanding of academic programs, curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs at UC
- Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions
- Knowledge of admissions requirements for campus/school/college
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Requires travel during the year; night and weekend work may be required during travel season
- Mandated reporting requirements for Child Abuse
- Must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean record and participate in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Requires a satisfactory criminal history background check
