Job Duties
The EMF Service Team Member, reporting to the Team Lead, provides customer‑oriented, value‑added post‑award management services to UCSB Principal Investigators, Research Finance Analysts, and university partners. Responsibilities include set‑up, invoicing, and fiscal management of individual grants and contracts awarded by federal, state, other government, and private sponsors. The role applies university policies and office procedures, exercises judgment within defined guidelines, manages professional relationships with customers, partners and sponsors, and balances workload to meet service levels and sponsor deadlines.
Experience may involve managing an award portfolio ranging from high‑volume, low‑complexity awards to low‑volume, high‑complexity awards.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 4–6 years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, or a related field.
- 4–6 years of demonstrated ability in continual learning, interpersonal skills, problem solving, oral communication, written communication, compliance management, influencing/negotiating, and customer service.
- 4–6 years of demonstrated integrity, flexibility, poise, resilience, attendance, accountability, empathy, decisiveness, self‑direction, technical credibility, and subject‑matter expertise.
- 4–6 years of demonstrated ability to apply theory to practice with in‑depth understanding of the professional field to analyze and solve problems/issues related to office skills, office systems, business knowledge for core finance functions, analysis, project management, regulatory compliance, post‑award processes, and post‑award systems.
- 1–3 years of relevant work experience with the University of California or experience with UC pre‑ or post‑award.
- 1–3 years of demonstrated competence in team building, conflict management, and technology management.
- 1–3 years of demonstrated passion, accessibility, perseverance, proactivity, service motivation, and educator/mentor.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employee sponsorship.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check.

JobFunctions And Percentages Of Time
- 90% EMF Post‑Award Management – Setup, invoicing, and financial monitoring (detailed responsibilities include award configuration, budget appropriations, invoicing accuracy, financial reporting, and audit support).
- 0% EMF Post‑Award Management (Continuation) – Service activities such as relationship development with research offices and department representatives, responding to inquiries, and maintaining compliance documentation.
- 10% Other – Training, policy updates, knowledge sharing, and special projects as assigned.
