Position SummaryPart‑time, associate faculty pool. Applications for this pool are continually accepted and will be added to the pool for review by hiring authorities on an as‑needed basis.
AssignmentThe position is a part‑time associate instructor role. Teaching may involve lecture‑discussion courses during day, evening, Saturday, or online/distance‑education formats during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters.
Work LocationMission College, Santa Clara, CA
Salary and BenefitsSalary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load. Pay is prorated from an initial hiring range of $36,191 – $52,297 per semester and is based on academic achievement, teaching and related experience.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree in political science, government, or international relations; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, ethnic studies, J.D., or LL.B.; OR
- A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Political Science; OR
- The equivalent of the above.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications- Teaching experience in American Government.
- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online activities, evaluation of student work, consultation with students, and maintenance of currency in the subjects taught.
- Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
- Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
- Follow course outlines filed in the instruction office.
- Maintain at least 0.5 hours of office hours per week per section.
- Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the District and college.
- Provide each student with a written syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook.
- Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services.
- Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the area of expertise.
