Position Title:
Part-Time French Instructor (Pool)
Part‑time, Associate Faculty Pool – teaching lecture‑discussion courses in day, evening, Saturday, or online/distance formats across Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. Represents the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT/AFT Local 6554).
Work location:
Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.
Salary prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $36,191–$52,297 per semester; up to 67% of a full‑time load.
Minimum Qualifications- Education – possession of:
Master’s in French; or Bachelor’s in French and Master’s in another language/linguistics; or equivalent; or a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in French. - Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, cultural, disability and sexual orientation backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
- Experience teaching French language and culture at a community college level.
- Teaching, training, and/or cultural life experiences enabling you to mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, student groups and college support services.
- Solid knowledge of English, written and spoken.
- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation of in‑class or online/distance activities, evaluation of student work, and consultation outside of class.
- Maintain accurate class records and submit attendance rosters and grade reports on time.
- Follow course outlines and maintain a written syllabus at the beginning of each course.
- Maintain office hours (.5 hours per week per section).
- Observe, support and enforce district and college regulations, policies and programs.
- Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other services.
- Assist students with academic requirements and provide advice for successful achievement.
- Work cooperatively within the college community, fostering an environment free from harassment, prejudice and bias.
- Applications screened by department representatives; qualified applicants contacted for interview.
- Travel expenses for interview are the candidate’s responsibility.
- Applications remain in the online system for 1 year; part‑time pools refreshed annually.
- Application materials become the property of the District.
- Upon hire, candidate must provide required documents of identity, authorization to work and official transcripts.
- District does not provide visa sponsorship.
